earlier today i went to check on the ladies and change their waters. Unfortunatly one of our pullets were hung up on the handle of the feeder and it looks pretty bad. Her toe is still there but flat towards the end of her toe. She isn't walking on it and doesn't even stand up really if she does she is unable to keep balance. I didn't know if it is easier to just end any suffering or seeing what will happen in few days and see if she is able to get around. Maybe i could splint it for her to make it stable I'm unable to see if anything is broken or even if anything is out of place. I just don't want to put her down if she is able to live a full life. I would bring her to the vet but its a weekend and they wouldn't even bother with it they said. Please let me know what i am able to do.

Place her in a cage or a basket with food and water close enough that she can reach it lying down. Force her to rest the foot for a few days, and hopefully she will recover the use of her foot. I found one hanging once from a feeder handle also, but fortunately caught it before the chicken became harmed. I since make sure those handles are down. I hope your girl recovers soon.

Thank you, we have given her some time alone with water and food close to her and a little heat to make her as comfortable as possible. I feel she will be fine a few days of relaxation taking it easy. I was a little worried she would be a little uncomfortable i was told they done have feeling in their feet??... My first time have chickens i was worried to see this. Thank you for your help

X2. She may also be a bit shocky or upset from being trapped like that. Maybe Eggcessive knows if aspirin would be okay. What about some kind of stabilizer? I wonder if anyone has tried something like a snow shoe?

Well today she seems well, walking fine, a little slow. We have built boxes in our coop for our youngest chicks and she was in there all night relaxing. She ended up just catching some air and jumped out so i just let her be. She jumped in one of the nesting boxes and made herself comfortable. We will just keep a close eye on her.
