Just for a bit of a laugh I thought I would celebrate some of my hens birthdays with an awards ceremony.
Our first hatched birds and are officially hens, and most of them are in their first proper moult....so many feathers blowing around!
So, here is a slice of our flock, the winners if you will! Feel free to jump in with some of your own pic or awards!
The award for 'My first egg today' goes to,
Sal, the Salmon Faverolle.

The award for 'Failing to conform to any sort of standard' goes to
Sav, the (wait for it) Salmon Faverolle. Australian SOP is not the same as US...but c'mon!

The award for 'you call that a moult' goes to
Curly the Barnevelder, she also scooped 'largest egg for not much chicken' and ' most nonconforming right toe'

Next up,
The award for 'what do you mean we are not Rhode Island Reds like our mum' goes to the (sssshhhhh adopted) twins.

The award for 'best hole digger' and 'assistant rake worker' goes to,
Lavern.

'Best rumpless Light Sussex' award is given to,
Cleo, (only the back half got the moulting memo!)

The award for 'Longest ever not laying an egg' award goes to,
Amy the silver pencilled wyandotte. 51 weeks this weekend. We have seen her find a nest but that's about as close to egg laying as she has gotten thus far!

'Longest moult ever' is awarded to Rosie the RIR, went straight into a moult after adopting her day old twin Rock daughters...not laid an egg since, still finding her brown feathers around the place. In addition she also scooped, 'Best kept lineage secret'

The 'I didn't make this mess' award was hard to split between Marrie the french wheaten maran and Summer the Welsummer so they both took home some straw.....which they promptly threw on the ground anyway.

And that ladies and gentlemen, concludes this years 'Bens-Hens Best' Can't wait to see next seasons fashion as the ladies begin to sport the latest winter wears!
Cheers
