what are some signs that I will see that my pullet is preparing to start laying? I have Silver Laced Wyandottes, Amerucaunas and a Black Copper Maran. they are all about 4 months old.

In a month you may see them squat for you. This is usually about 1-2 weeks before they lay, from my experience. They will begin laying usually around 5-6 months of age.

Also they start going in and out of the nest boxes, and watch the other hens in the nest boxes.

! Pleased you joined us! You will notice combs on the hens getting ready to lay will turn brighter red than they were previously. I've also seen my young pullets suddenly take an interest in the nesting boxes...exploring various boxes, at like practice for the main event!

thank you all for your knowledge . . . I understand silver laced wyandottes lay earlier than other breeds and I have two pullets whose combs have changed to brilliant red in the last couple days and of course at night they sleep in the nesting boxes.
