Hi,

New two backyard animals. We just got two 2year-old ducks from somebody. The two year old Pekin duck seems to have a pulsating vent or Undertale. She seems fine acting, normally, eats sleeps, walks around, etc.

Just doesn’t happen with any of the other ducks, so just wondering if it’s normal. Our other two ducks that we already had are only five or six months old so they don’t lay eggs.

Has this duck been laying eggs regularly? When did she lay last? What are you feeding? Do you offer oyster shell? Or another form of calcium? When we have females it’s always a good idea to have Calcium gluconate on hand in case of an egg laying problem. TSC Carrie’s it, 1ml daily over a tasty treat will help get an egg moving if one is stuck. Seeing their vent pulsing can mean they are having trouble laying and they will sometimes go into their coop also trying to lay.

Thanks, pulsing like her sphincter is tightening and relaxing. About once a second or less. Like I said she’s very active and zero distress.

I am feeding them chicken layer, scraps, and they free range on our 3 acres. Will get some calcium.

Not sure when she last layed. The previous owner said they lay but had been slowing down. They are organic bird feed previously.

Can I feel an egg if I palpate for it?

Depends on where it is inside of her and be very gentle if you try don't want to break one. I'd get the cal glu and start her on it just in case.
Pick up some oyster shell too and put it out close to feed not in it. That way they can have it when they need it. it doesn't sound like she is egg bound since she is acting normal but just in case it still would be a good idea to try her on the cal glu for a few days.
And please update.
I feed my flock chicken layer and still put out oyster shell and my females eat it like it's candy. I also have cal glu just in case.
:welcome
