I used to host pumpkin carving parties every year. I kinda miss them, so I decided to set out a pumpkin and let my geese out to graze new areas and inspect the pumpkin. The consensus is they much prefer the pumpkin grated with a cheese grater and mixed in with their regular feed, though they'd still prefer watermelon or apples if given a choice - or my phone, which they can't let me use for very long before they demand investigating it for themselves.
I may carve a pumpkin as it gets closer to Halloween and let the geese investigate that, but as it stands, this wasn't a bad substitute for my old pumpkin parties.
I also partly set the pumpkin out in hopes I'd get something good for entering into the poultry pecking pumpkins photo contest. If any of my fellow goose lovers feel like it, I encourage you to enter! I love chicken pictures, but geese and pumpkins are two of my favorite things and I'd love to see more photos of them together. Plus, this seems like a pretty cool opportunity to show off your birds and get a chance at winning a free PFM, as well!
Happy pumpkin season, y'all!
