I was thinking of going to a large poultry show this weekend here in GA and perhaps buying some chicks....but then I started thinking about how much more risk there would be to buy chicks from a poultry show considering they had been around 1000's of other chickens for a couple days. I understand individuals keep their chickens separately in cages but hundreds of cages in one common area would seem to increase a persons chances of bringing home sick birds. I have never been to a poultry show before and was quite excited about going until I started thinking more about it...anyone with experience with poultry shows?

I was reading some info about this show on the website.

They said that they would be immediately removing any visibly sick birds.

Also, when you get home, keep the birds away from your flock for a little bit just in case.

Here where I live & I'm sure that it is the same there, any bird that is at the show has to show papers showing they are free from sickness or disease. That being said, I haven't see chicks at a show here, generally it is full grown birds or point of lay. When or if you get them when you get home keep quarantined.

ETA: You will most likely pay more because they will be from Show stock.
