Hey guys! So I have an existing flock of 12 chickens that are roughly a year old. I raised them all from chicks. They are a very healthy flock. I have one black silkie, and all the rest are an assortment of full sized birds.
I wanted to get a couple more silkies to be her smallish friends, so I found someone local who was looking to rehome a few of his. I got a four month old probably rooster from him, and an 8 month old hen. Both are black silkies. I didn’t notice till I got home, but the older hen has a bit of a dirty face, and kind of an odd smell. I cleaned her face up when we got home a few days ago, and it’s back to being gunky again. She doesn’t have any other symptoms that I can tell, no sneezing, wheezing, running at the eyes, etc. she seems to be a good weight for her age, and doesn’t act lethargic at all. Also, the little roo seems totally healthy and neither smells nor has a runny nose. They came from the same flock.
I’m currently quarantining them and following all the protocols to keep my chickens safe, I’m just wondering what I should do about the new chickens, and what could be wrong with her. It’s only been three days since I got them. I’ve also never had a sick chicken before. I’d love any advice!
Including a picture of the crusty new chicken’s face. Thanks guys!
