My daughter's 2nd grade classroom eggs (Ameraucanas) look like they may not hatch--they see embryos but it is day 22 and we have moved the incubator to families over 3 weekends are some folks are not sure they kept the temperature constant. So, I am looking to purchase chicks. My town only lets me have 6 hens and I wanted Ameraucanas but I see that they can be skittish. Should I get a combination of different breeds now that I have some choice? We live outside of Boston and the Agway near my house has some various breeds (but not Ameraucanas). Should I even try to buy them online? It seems as if there is a minimum of 12 to 15 for those types of orders. If you know of a site that would sell me 6 of different breeds, I would do that.
