Hello,

I am looking to purchase maple syrup. I prefer not to purchase commercially, as in from Costco. If you or someone you know taps their own trees and will have it available, please post information here or send me a pm. Thanks!

I am in California... all the trees around these parts are pine, cedar and fir! Lol... I keep looking at my Mother's Japanese Maple... but I do not think it will work!

a very long process---the sap is a very watery substance-collected from spigots tapped into the maple trees with buckets just below them. The buckets are then dumped into a huge vat and slowly boiled-they boil according to the grade of syrup they are producing-its during the boiling process that it slowly turns to syrup-the water evaporates and its like a very sweet smelling steam bath! it takes 50+ gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of real syrup-thats why its so expensive. takes a long time from start to finish! I did it as a kid and our schools had trips to the syrup mills-they really weren't mills either, all hands on- old fashion hard work:)
