When a hen who's in the hen house, along with her boyfriends (yes, she has two) and she's making this higher pitched purring noise, does that mean something? Like maybe she wants to lay? This girl is new to the flock and I've witnessed their um, encounters?? So, I dunno...its a behavior I've never seen....the whole girls in the hen house purring like this. Any thoughts??

Hard to say, what they are saying......a video(for the audio) might help.
Could be contentment trilling or a mild alarm.

My Rooster actually purrs a lot! It's normally when he's all settled in for the night and in his cozy dog bed (he's handicap so is a house chicken) then he just sort of winks his eyes like he'll be dozing off soon. I've also heard my girls do it outside when they're evaluating something... so I sort of feel like it's how we hum along when we're chilling or working on something
