About 3 weeks now. She is very friendly, I pet ( harass ) her daily in the nest. I have confidence she will, but if not I'm prepared to care for them myself.. Getting them tomorrow. Will post pics!!
Lots of luck your way! I tried to do this with a muscovy duckling under a Scovy hen and she sort of took to him but i was worried about leaving him out with her because she can leave her coop.
Ok, this is NOT going how I thought... She seems to be half way tolerant, but them is attacking them a little. The ducklings are peeping their heads off. Her nest is up about 3 feet and I'm afraid they are going to jump out. I put a peice of rat wire up for now. I moved them all to a brooder cage, but the hen just got up on the roost and tried to get out... Does anyone know the behavior? Is this bad?? Should I just go get them and brood them inside??? She would've taken right to them if she wanted them right?
Yep. Take them in and brood them. Doesn't look like she wants them. Now I do have a Scovy hen who stole all of another hens clutch AFTER they hatched. What surprised me was that they were a whole week younger than hers.
