Putting live chicks under silkie hen

I wanted to know if anyone ever put live chicks you have gotten somewhere else and put them under a silkie hen that is sitting on eggs?If you went in at night and took the eggs and replaced them with live day old chicks would she raise them as her own?Has anyone tried this?

Totally depends on the hen. You do know that the eggs she are on will be abandoned if she does accept the chicks, though, right?

Yes I did know that,I wanted some white silkies and the ones she hatched before are the blue color and red color and black.I was thinking about ordering from McMurrey and get some diffterent breeds for her to raise,I don`t have an incubator and would rather use her as she is a great mother.
