What WYE to use and WHY?

When searching for the WYE part I discovered several types. Have looked at many plans, pics and video. Have seen many variations.

My plan... Bottom of feeder will be outside (under coop /sheltered).

Will use a Double Wye for two chickens to feed at once.

Considering hood and capping off opening options.

A second single wye will be installed higher up on same tube and configured for inside dining.

Thanks!!!View attachment 1452061

I just updated my PVC feeder today. I did it to increase capacity. This one held enough feed for 7 chickens for about 3 days. The old one is here: 20180706_094534.jpg This one was from scrap PVC it included, 3" x 3' PVC tube, 3" end cap for top. The bottom pan was a 6" wide by 3" deep end cap. I notched the bottom of the tube to allow some feed to flow out. The chickens have to dig pretty deep and rarely sweep feed out.
The new one has a 4"x 3' section replacing most of the old 3" tube. My calculations are that this will double the capacity. The feed on the ground of the run is from me being messy when filling. 20180706_111813.jpg

I just don’t understand the need for 3 days of feed . Don’t you check your chickens everyday? I feed and clean and check on health of my birds every morning.

Also watch for it plugging up and not letting food flow

It's good to have just in case of times when your family is out on vacation for the weekend! Or just because you're lazy on certain days but can rest assure there's plenty of feed left

I check them every day. But, We are going away soon. Having a week worth of feed and water allows my chicken sitters to just, open and close pop door, check status and collect eggs. Less of a burden for my neighbors or kids. The area I hang it keeps it dry. So hopefully it will not plug up. Got a week for a test run. And there is a ferocious storm hitting us right now, so it is a good test.

I have about 40 lbs between two DIY no waste feeders out for my chickens. It's almost 2 weeks worth right now and I put fermented out every morning. I'm out there a few times a day, during the week and more often on weekends. I see no reason to put dry feed out every morning, my feed stays dry. Even the feeders you buy hold a good amount of feed.

Update on this feeder. When full the feed lasted 7 days. We have seven 1.5 year old chickens. That allowed our chicken sitters to just open and close the pop door, check water and feed status, count chickens and eggs.
