So looking into building a pvc chicken run like the one in the pics i was warned by a friend that hers only lasted a year before warping and bending in the summer heat i have no idea how hers was built only that she used 2 inch schedule 40 pipe and didn't paint it. However i have found people saying theirs is still going strong 2 and 6 years later no issues. I planned to use 1 inch but am now undecided as i want something that will last. I live in Tx lots of sun lots of heat though the pen is mostly under a large tree, but is it worth it to even build a pvc pen. If so what size pvc should i use and could i get away with using schedule 40 or will i need to use schedule 80 to make it last i do plan to paint it if i do make it as i read that will also help it to last longer but if it won't last it's just not worth the money.

My Hubby made me a mobile chick run (5' x8', sides are 3' that peaks at about 4' pictured below) of about out of PVC schedule 40, I didn't paint it & it's a couple years old. However, it doesn't have the height the one in the picture & the piece that stretches the length is warped a little. Schedule 80 would be stiffer however, having lived in TX thinking the heat would cause it to warp some.

You may want to consider/research EMT (Electrical Metallic Tubing), paint any cut ends with Cold Galvanize which to help prevent rusting.

That is actually what we are looking at now a friend suggested it after i told him i was gonna just end up having to make a hoop coop out of cattle panels even if it would cost much more as i want something that will last and i don't have to rebuild every few years my current set up is falling apart. Didn't even think of the metal electrical tubing until he told me about it yesterday the price is about the same as pvc but will last much longer.
