Hi All
we would like to have our yard sprayed with pyrethroids this summer to get rid of the the mosquitoes. We are told they will not spray the grass but will shrubbery and standing water. Does anyone know if this is safe for chickens? We have one left from our flock and we let her out of her coop/pen every day to roam around the yard and eat grass.

Yes, its safe for chickens. Pyrethroids are sprayed routinely for malaria control in numerous countries.

It is NOT safe for felines (they lack a critical enzyme that catalyzes the reaction and rapdily denatures pyrethroids in skin contact with most animals). It is also very much not safe for fish.

Those dunks work very well in standing water, and are safe for everyone. There are various pyrethroids, some have longer half-lives than others. safe for chickens, depending on concentration, BUT not for cats, fish, frogs, or I think reptiles. Or bees and useful insects.
Consider all factors when using an insecticide! Mosquitoes are not helpful, but be careful because of 'collateral damages'.

Yes, if you have standing water, the dunks work great. Only don't buy the overpriced donuts from Lowes/Home Depot. Get the jug instead.

JUG Also available at TSC, similar price.

As a matter of possible interest, some countries are studying adding the active biological, BTi, to chicken feed in order to control flies in the coop area. Its proving safe and surprisingly effective.
