Hey everyone. Second post here, sort of a follow up I guess from my last post. I mentioned there that I acquired two new babies and since maybe last week, one of themy has had an odd quack. Her chirp is fine but is followed up by an odd noise.

She is a 2.5 week old pekin.

Here's a small audio clip of it I recorded. I hope she doesn't have a respiratory infection. I change their bedding constantly and they are in a room that is kept at 75 degrees at all times. Any advice is appriciated. Thanks!

It sounds like a small quack is coming in,all my ducklings I have ever had have done this.I'm pretty for sure its the second step to getting their voices because my drakes get it to,regardless,it is nothing to worry about.

Yep sounds like her voice is starting to change . Mine did this combined with baby peeping until they were around 4 weeks old:) the girls get a much louder quack and the boys will end up with a quiter raspy sound. You should google or search on you tube and you will be able to find videos or what girl ducks sounds like compared to male ducks! :)

Oh, ok! I'm relieved to hear no one thinks she might be sick. I knew and have looked up the difference in sound between males and females. At TSC, the guy there did a quick sex check but I am nervous she might actually be male, I was hoping for all females, since I don't have that many hens and I didn't want to put them in danger. I heard males can be dangerous to the hens if he doesn't have enough birds to go between. But I'm not entirely sure tbh. She is smaller than her sister and her sister isn't making that noise, which is what concerns me.

My drake started this sound before my girl did.
