The breeder who I've come in contact with, has Brahmas and said he does the utmost best to keep his birds happy and healthy.
Well we went to a show and the breeders birds were there. The hen was molting and had her eyes close, the rooster had been in a fight. Now should I buy from this person or go to someone else?
What should I do? Would you buy from someone with birds molting and that had been in a fight attend a show?

Note: I know molting is normal, but is it really that wise to let yur molting birds go to a show?

I wouldn't purchase birds from that breeders because, if he/she i willing to bring birds of that condition to a show, it is obvious he/she doesn't really keep the birds in the best conditions. I purchased my Show Brahmas from a breeder who is somewhat well known, not just anyone random person.

Yep. If a breeder is willing to put an injured or molting bird to a show of all places, there's something seriously wrong with the way they handle things. . .

Did anyone happen to check and see if this was a premium show?

As in, a bird that is entered and gets 1st, 2nd, 3rd gets money for being there? If that's the case, the breeder is simply trying to get the money back that he used for the entry fee. If that was the best bird the breeder had, she may have just started molting. If there's not alot of competition in the Asiatic class, the breeder may still take best Asiatic.

Males get into fights...it's going to happen. Birds are going to be stressed and will freak out in cages. Birds can and will get torn up in transport.

If you want to judge this person, ask to visit their property to see how the bird's are normally housed. Birds at a show are not in their natural conditions and it's hardly fair to judge the conditions of their home based on what has happened to them in transport and while being caged.

doesn't sound liek the birds were unhealthy...molt happens...what stage of molt was it in? Like an earlier poster said...small class you stillmight win.

Rooster fights happen at shows...two birds will go at it through the cages...once it is there you are kinda stuck with it...ever notice the dividers they use in the game bird areas? Now if it was old wounds that were infected and all that...

I have seen birds with mites and shows and you couldn't get me to pass the time of day with those folks
