I'm wanting to know:
1. How many hens do you have?
2. How many lb. do your hens eat in a week?
3. What breeds are they?

Thanks in advance, my reason for these qeustions are. I'm trying to get an idea of how much I would have save up for my future flock.

When I had just 6 they would eat a 50lb bag in about 6 weeks... Just did the math, that's about 8lbs a week. Yeah that sounds right, I remember reading somewhere that each chook will eat about 1.25 lbs/week.

um...lots...

I think I feed about 150 lbs a week...maybe more....okay...more...200 lbs...maybe 250 lbs...I feed different feeds and have different stuff together...anyways...let's say 250 lbs and I have like 100 chickens and...ducks...and quail...and pigeons and guineas and...yeah...i don't have a clue how many animals I have or how much I feed...

I try to not do the math or count things...makes me feel like an addict...

I am so not helpful...

12 hens and I go through a 50# bag of layer 4 - 6 weeks. Depends on what they are eating elsewhere as to how much purchased feed they eat. I go through a 50# of scratch about every 6 - 8 weeks.

Apparently, we have a cross with BO as part of the mix.

1. 15 Hens and 2 Roos
2. Before they were let out, they consumed a 50 lb. bag every 2 weeks.
3. Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds.

1) 8 hens and 1 rooster.
2) 50 lbs of layer about every 6 weeks and 50 lbs scratch about every two months.
3) 5 rir hens, 1 rir rooster, 2 EE, and 1 SLW.

Your full grown hens will eat about 4-5 oz of feed a day. This will change of course if you allow them to browse or if you feed kitchen scraps etc.

Another way to look at it is about 2 lbs per week per bird. All of this is somewhat dependent on your breed, your feeding regiman etc etc. but this will be close.
