Hi, I recently became a mom to a few baby quail and have some questions, While visiting a friend that lives in the country my husband and I had the misfortune of watching a bobcat catch and kill the mom who was sitting on her nest of eggs and I decided to bring the eggs home and try to hatch them. We looked up the information and made an incubator out of a cheap icechest. 3 out of 7 eggs hatched. We lost the smallest one 5 days later and don't know why. The other 2 however have been doing great up until a couple of days ago when I noticed one of them couldnt walk and was breathing heavy. These are the first 2 that hatched and they were 4 hours apart so i will just refer to them as the bigger one and the little one. When they hatched they weighed 7 and 9 grams and have been consistant in their weight gain staying about 2 grams difference.
A few days ago I noticed that the smaller one couldn't walk and was breathing heavy. The foot was dark in color and I'm not sure how it happened but something did. Ive tried to gather as much information as possible from the day we brought them home and I've learned ALOT these past few weeks and read all about the highs and lows that come with raising Quail but at the moment I feel like I've learned nothing so here are my questions.
Should I separate them for healing purposes? All that Ive read says I should but when I try it they call for the other one and seem to be depressed so I put them back together and the biger one seems to be on top of the other and making it uncomfortable. I'm also worried how the one will do alone should the smaller one not recover
