Hi, fellow farmers! I'm a third-generation farmer following in the footsteps of my father and grandfather. My grandfather was a quail farmer, but not my dad. Now that I've inherited the family farm, however, I'm interested in backer-establishing quail on the farm. Right now, it's a 200-acre farm with rotating corn-wheat- and soybean crops. I don't have any experience with quail, however, and have a lot of questions. If you could answer any or all of them, that would be super helpful. Thanks!
-What technologies would you recommend using? (and why these specific technologies)?
- How long will it take for the technologies that I use in starting quail farming to repay themselves? Is the environmental benefit of using more sustainable technologies great enough to make it worth personal loss?
- How will quail farming/ the technology that I use for it make my farm more sustainable?
- Are there any financial incentives in Virginia for quail farmers who choose sustainable technology and farming practices?
-How can I bring back the quail habitat to my farm?
- What are your other tips for starting quail farming?

I hope you get the answers you are looking for! My instinct is that there are more small backyard quail farmers than anything else here but maybe someone will surprise me. I would almost advise emailing a few of the bigger breeders I know in the country (Kansas City Quail, Stellar Farms, James Marie Farms, etc), but even they probably run setups a little differently than those geared for high-production commercial carcasses.

Who is trying to hatch some nutty number like 2k/year? @RUNuts or @R2elk ?

@007Sean , you've probably also run bigger quail setups than most of us.
