So, HoneyNut turned out to be a boy!

But he's doing things I don't understand. He makes a weird click-click noise in his throat, curls his tongue, and tries to attack bare feet whenever he sees them. He's not happy unless I'm wearing socks. He also make the same click-click noise, puffs himself up with a high head, and tries to peck the face of anyone with long hair.

Is he just asserting him little self? Or did I break my bird somehow?
He's typically a sweetheart except when he sees feet and long hair.

Yes, he's my only quail. We rescued him from a window well last summer, his family had abandoned him, I raised him by hand but there is nowhere to buy pet quails around here so I couldn't get him any siblings. His coop is right beside my bed and I let him out all the time.

He's a California quail I think.

Where about are you located...have you checked your state thread to see if anyone near you have a few extra females for him?

If you are anywhere near California, there are a lot of breeders within driving distance on Craigslist. I'm not on California quail breeders, but there may be other breeds that can cohabitate and keep him company.
