Hello everyone!
I have 2 cortonix quails, a male and a female in a 4x3 pen in the living room with a devider. So i can choose how much time they are in contact

I just hatched out 2 more so it will improve the ratio

She laid at 8ish weeks, 1 a day for 12 days then quit and its been 18 days.

They eat 1/3 chicken layer and 2/3 boiler crumbles at 35% protein. And layer is purina its average layer i cant remember the protein content...

Surroundings havent changed either

any ideas? Thank you!

My new chicks below! Such fun

I don't keep quail, but I do know that when a rooster is stressing out the hens, they might quit laying for a shot time. Could the male be stressing her out? Even if they are not in contact, I know that some roosters will still harass hens through the fence.
Is it at all possible that your quail is having an unexpected molt?

Edit: I forgot to mention, those chicks are adorable!!! :jumpy

Oooh great points. He crows threw the wire at her and is super aggresive. i cant wait to get rid of him

She is loosing some feathers, Ive never had quails so i dont realy know the difference but definitly could be

Light is a big factor in getting cortunix to lay. Possibly increase the amount of light for a longer period each day. Your hen might be ill. Birds are great at hiding illness so look her over carefully.

I feed mine layer crumble mixed with moistened dog food--eggs everywhere.

They get 15 hours of light a day

before she laid she was calm and sweet and after shes alot more skiddish. All her eggs were perfect and i incubated 3 and got 2 chicks

Ive check her out as far as someone without experience can. Clean eyes, Clean hole. No mites, Clean skin. Clean feet

My buttons went through a phase of no eggs. I bought oyster shell and beat it to death so it was small enough for them to eat. Egg production picked back up and things have been a breeze. Try that. Just make sure it is small enough for them to be able to eat.

hahahaha i read that quickly and thaught you beat your quail to death!

I will try it

You might try adding a few more hens, she's likely being overmated and stressed by that. It's not the roos fault, he's just doing his job.

Protein is too high, 24% would be better. Give some oyster shell.

Do they have a dust bath? Ant enrichment in their cage? Quail like to hide in things, under things, etc.

Ant enrichment?

Yeah there is chinchila dust on both sides, and my wife puts toys in it haha
