OK, so I feel like I have a pretty good working plan:

1 pen that holds about 30 birds for breed stock and eggs for food
1 incubator
1 Brooder box
2 grow out pens that hold 15 to 20

The plan is 3 weeks incubator (18 days) 4 weeks grow out pen and then to the freezer they go.

My question is: How do I deal with rotating my breeder birds? (not sure I am using the correct terms)

Do I have to have an extra cage to move them to whenever I want to add in some new birds?
If it is just hens can I ust add them in at night as I seen suggested somewhere online?
Or is there other options that I am not thinking about?

Also does anyone see any flaws in my plan?

Thank you for reading my post.

What I am doing is I have zip ties in different colors on their legs. I bought them from e-bay. They are the 3-4 inch ones. 18 pound.
Then I put them on and trim the extra off.
You can use different colors to indicate hatch, age, and blood lines. I have 7 colors and there is 2 legs on each bird giving 14 different senerios.
!4 may be too many but I wanted to order in bulk cause it was less money in the long run.
This doesn't help in the brooder though , I don't think they will stay on , but I haven't tryed yet.
They also have leg bands in metal and plastic ,But the zip ties were more for less money.
