One of my female quail just ripped off her one toe and is bleeding all over the cage. I took her out and put her in a separate cage but am wondering if I should or could do anything else for her. Would have to happen on the day I plan on start gathering eggs for the incubator. Any ideas on how long before I reintroduce her to the male?

At first I thought it said "toenail" and I was going to suggest cornstarch or spider webs to staunch the flow. Then I saw it was her whole toe, and I'm not certain that would work. But perhaps if you have an styptic powder and then could wrap it?

How much of the toe was ripped off? I recently had a female quail that also ripped her entire toenail off and the very tip of her toe. (Got it caught in a log split). It was bleeding all over everything. I soaked her foot in some warm water and used an alcohol wipe on it and it did stop bleeding. I then put on some neosporin and wrapped a piece of bandaid on the toe. Just enough to cover the wound, firmly squeezed on. It didn't freak her out as the wound was too painful for her to be concerned about the bandaid. But I left it on there for a few days and then took it off. She healed up just fine. Of course the toe will not grow back nor will the nail. But she is fine.

I got a better look at the toe when I got the bleeding to stop and it looks like it ripped off right at where the toenail starts to grow. I cleaned it up, wrapped it and this morning she was doing a lot better. She has even stopped limping so I imagine she is doing okay. Thanks for the help guys.
