Quail + Sandsheets = X

So I tried putting some sandsheets in for my quail today because their claws are getting quite sharp and thought they would wear them down a bit. I didn't realise how much these guys poo. It's disgusting! I only cleaned them out about 6 hours ago and it's a poop party in there!! Will probably clean them again tomorrow. Maybe one sandsheet and the rest sawdust!

Give them a tray filled with lots of dirt. You can even cut down a cereal box and lay it down, giving it a 2 inch side. Fill it with dirt or sand and sprinkle bird seed in the dirt. They will scratch at the dirt and it will keep the claws worn down. This dirt also will work for dirt bathes and gizzard stones.

I'm sure I can find some spare soil in the garden. I have a bowl with sand that I put in every other day. I'd love to be able to do deep litter, but with it being inside, I don't think that will be viable.
