Hi all,
I'm new to the Quail world. I have a handful of them. Previously 5 female and one male. I was given with a 6th one that resulted on a male. I separated the 2 males as they were fighting most of the time and put one of the females with the new male.
Everything was going well until the female I put with the new male started sneezing. She was laying eggs as usual though. I gave her some natural remedies in the water made of herbs that I bought for my chickens. She stopped sneezing eventually but noticed her eggs were getting whiter until 3 days ago she laid a softshell egg and stopped laying from that day. Today I found her dead.
Any idea what might be the reason?
Thanks

I'm sorry for your loss. There are many potential causes, particularly without a more detailed rundown of your circumstances. Are you giving them supplemental calcium? Did you check for egg binding? Soft shelled eggs have become stuck and killed some of my quail before when I didn't catch them in time.

The sneezing could be as simple as an irritated respiratory symptom from breathing in dust from the bedding, or it could have been a respiratory infection, some of which do cause birds to stop or slow their rate of lay. Did the bird have nasal discharge, facial swelling, or bubbly eyes? How much ventilation does their pen have? Unfortunately, if it is an infection, natural remedies may alleviate symptoms but will not cure them; they will always be carriers.
