Quail troubles...HELP

Thanks. They do slam into the top of the pen for no apparent reason. It is not but 12" high built for that purpose. I thought that would be short enough...What can be done about the leg problem. It will not help the bird mentioned earlier, but I don't want to be caught off guard again if I can help it.

p.james :

At least one had a leg problem that would not allow it sit or stand upright for very long. The legs were not spraddled but it would lay with the legs together stretched out behind. THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM== COTURNIX DO THIS BEHAVIOR REGULARLY THROUGHOUT THEIR LIVES... ITS A LITTLE IDIOSYNCRASY OF THE BREED.

It had no balance though looked otherwise healthy. NOW THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM. BY NO BALANCE CAN YOU DESCRIBE FURTHER. ALSO BEFORE OR AS THEY DIE ARE THEY ARCHING THEIR HEADS UP OVER THEIR BACKS?

I have seen a couple of others laying this way but with no noticeable problems. The one I found dead today was in a pen with adequate space, based on the bird to sqare footage ratio of the breeder I bought them from THIS MAY BE MISINFORMATION. EXACTLY HOW MANY QUAIL IN WHAT SIZE PEN?

Basically I have two questions: 1. Why are they dying? 2. What happened to the legs?

ALSO LETS LOOK AT BASICS HERE.... ARE THEY TOO HOT/COLD? WHAT ARE YOU FEEDING THEM AND ARE THEY EATING? WHAT ARE YOU USING FOR BEDDING? DO THEY HAVE PASTY BUTT OR DIARRHEA? ARE THEY NEAR OR HAVE THEY BEEN EXPOSED TO ANY OTHER BIRDS WHATSOEVER???
