Hey!! I wanted to start doing quail updates so here is the first one. The quail are one day old here. I have a quail that layed down the entire first day. It barely started to walk a few hours ago. But when it walks it keeps it’s toes scrunched up so it more so wobbles. It seems do be moving around pretty fine now that I helped it eat. But the toes are still scrunched up... Do you know what the cause of this is and how to fix it??

Hatching is hard work for the little cuties. It isn't unusual to lose the odd one early on so don't feel bad if that happens. As for the toes sometimes they straighten on their own or you can make a little cardboard boot in the shape of their foot and tape it under their foot with the toes taped straight on top of it and generally within 24 hours the toes will have straightened up. Or you can just use a bandaid/plaster - it's tricky getting it on there so it might be a two person job.

Number 1 looks like an italian, 2 looks to be white, 3 is a wildtype/pharoah, and 4 is a tibetan/range. Aren't they the cutest?!

G’Day from down under trex1112349 :frow Welcome!

Sorry, I know nothing about Quail, just chickens, but with the link from Pork Pie and advice from Jae you are off to a fantastic start and I will simply add that I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

Okay, this one I know: Riboflavin or folic acid deficiency causes curled toes. Straighten that in a splint and provide vitamins immediately, or the sciatic nerve can become permanently damaged.

Riboflavin is also known as B2. And it's available at your local Walmart, over-the-counter. Buildup is not poisonous. Get it ASAP. If you can get an all-purpose, low-iron (low iron is for chickens, not sure about quail, but better safe than sorry) poultry nutrient dropper mix, do so. It can help loads.

Howdy:welcome:frow Happy :yato have you join the family. Enjoy your time here!:)
As JaeG said, plus get some Nutri-Drench, TSC carries it. Works wonders, full of vitamins and minerals needed for a good start. I give it to all my new hatched chicks for about 2 weeks. Then switch to regular water.
