ok i understand chicken can make quail sick.
why is it that they cannot build an immunity / be bred
to be immune to these deseases?
thanks

Im sorry I cant answer this question

But the bottom line is that they can't.

Probably for the same reason , humans can't built an inmune to HIV or HERPES etc etc

hope someone can answer that for you , if it really matters.

Chickens and other poultry types were domesticated MANY years ago. With the survival from diseases was a type of selective breeding for disease resistance through survival of the fittest that developed over many years. Quail hasn't been domesticated for near long enough to even begin the process in most species...

Edit to add

This is just my opinion and may be totally wrong.. I'm sure someone else will come chime in with some better insight and a better choice of words.

The only time you should have quail with chicken is if it's on a dinner plate.

I wouldn't insult the taste of them to put chicken on the same plate

I have said many times that quail should only be eaten at the dinner table. Chicken only at the coffee table in the living room, never with the same flat ware....

You can raise quail with chicken if the quail are in their own housing and away from chickens...first tend the quail , then the chicken. Easy as 1, 2, 3
