Has anyone used Ivomec Eprinex pour on for treating Capillaria worms in Quail? I was planning on using 1/8 ML. 1 bird has been under Vet care for a week. Treated with antibiotics for crop infection. Culture found large amount of this worm plus cecal worms. Going to treat the entire covey. Should ill bird be given half the dose?

Thank you!

My worry is that it will be hard to measure out 1/8 ML.

If you are treating them all, I suggest something like Wormout Gel in their water.

Starve them of water overnight the night before, provide it, refresh it for a few days.

Ohh, and dont be scared off by the price on that listing. It is for the 1,000 cc size. Change the quantity to 100ml-cc so it is only about 20 bucks.

OK, thank you. I treated everybody with Ivermectin pour on. I plan to follow up with the Safeguard in the H20, I believe I need to wait 10-14 days? I would like something I can treat them with either orally or topically one time, but it's about treating the birds, not worrying about saving myself a hassle.

Stinbr, I'm a exotic bird breeder with over 35 years of experience. I use ivomec on all my exotic birds. From finches to pheasants. I put 3cc to one gallon of water. I give it to them for 3 days straight. It's a little bit oily so take the water away the afternoon before giving the first dose. Repeat every 6 months. I have never lost a birds nor do I have any worm problems. Hope this helps you. Sal

I have used ivomectin to cure a nasty case of scaly-face on my parakeet without issue. I have had a gallon and used it for 5 years, which is 3 years past the expiry date. Tried it on chickens, baby guinea pigs, baby rabbits and mice, all with great success. However, an overdose on a baby rainbow lorikeet got it dozey and it died the next day. If it dies, you have not lost much.

You mix Ivomec injectable in an oral solution?

I did an experiment where I put some in the water in in a matter of minutes it floated to the top. Conclusion - I don't think it's water soluble.

Another thing... there is a study that found ivermectin is not effective in treating capillary worm unless *huge* doses are given.
