quarantine distance?

I know that you are supposed to quarantine a new bird from your flock for any diseases. My question is is how far does the bird need to be from the flock for it not to give or lowers the risk of giving my flock a potential disease?

I was told as far away as possible.. Some people only have a few feet in their backyards, others have 100's of acres. I placed my new girls over 100 feet from the old girls... With in the week the old girls were free ranging --RIGHT beside the new girls coop... SOOO be sure where ever you have them, that they can NOT get close to each other or it is not worth the effort. Thank goodness all the girls were healthy, but I would have been really sad to lose any of my girls..
