Our neighbor has 8 free ranging Guinea fowl. Every year around this time, one or tow of them make a sound they don't make at any other time of the year, and it lasts about a month. It's a very rhythmic, almost man made sound; it has two beats. It's like a ka-CHINK, ka-CHINK, ka-CHINK etc. Unlike the other noise they make, which is usually some alarm cackle and stops when the perceived danger is over, THIS noise goes on for most of the day. The hens are far enough away not to be bothering me, but I hear them every time I walk by there which is twice a day. I'm astonished at how the neighbor isn't going MAD during this time. Anyway, I would love to know why on earth they make these particular sounds around this time of year--what does the call mean? Are they calling for a mate? No idea whether there's a male guinea fowl since I don't know what he would look like. They all look absolutely identical.
