I have been reading that Ameraucana's are pretty quiet and I was thinking about picking up a few of the blue Ameraucana eggs from mypetchicken. I would only keep probably 2 hens. Is there any shot that I could do that without having my neighbors know what's going on? I think I am allowed to keep them in my area, but the houses are pretty close so even if I am allowed to have them I would not want them to be be disruptive for the neighbors.

Also wanted to ask, is there anywhere online that ships real blue Ameraucana eggs a little cheaper than $9.00 an egg or is that price pretty standard? Seemed crazy to me when I first read it but I guess it must be an in-demand type.

$9 an EGG? I've never heard of them going for that much!

There are several folks on here who have very nice blue Ameraucaunas - Heidi, Pips&Peeps, Dipsydoodledoo...among others. None are priced at $9 per egg.

As far as noise, my Ameraucanas are fairly quiet. However, when a hen lays an egg, she's VERY loud! So, just know that during egg laying, they'll be quite boisterous!

I buy by chicks at the farm supply for $2.75. There are people in the country wherever you are that have chicks they will sell. I guarantee it. Also, I have EE she rarely makes any noise. I am not suppose to have chickens. I have had them since March no one knows. Let's face it, the city noise is so loud no one notices and people don't go outside as much anymore. I think EE are a good choice. They are mild mannered and quiet.

Having recieved birds from both pips&peeps (Jean) AND Dipsydoodledoo (Lisa) I can tell you, that you won't be dissapointed. They have beautiful birds. If you want wheatens... they are also quiet and I recommend pasofinofarm (Melissa).

Good luck!

I agree with the other posts. You will have a 50/50 chance of a Roos with eggs. Also how many eggs are you going to try to hatch.

I would definitely sell all of the roosters. I was only planning on trying six or so eggs but I ended up deciding on red gold pheasants instead. Found some locally and I am hoping the male stays pretty quiet. At least I don't think the neighbors will know what a pheasant sounds like. I might still try some chickens at some point just because I enjoy incubating eggs and hatching them. I figure as long as I get a decent hatch I could at least break if I sell all the chicks.
