My daughter wants to show chickens in 4H. We need to identify them as American, Asiatic, English, Mediterranean, Continental, other Standard Breeds. My question is, where is the standard, how do I find it, or how do I go about identifying what we have?

That may even be easier as we have no clue what we are doing...lol

I know we have the following:

Standard cochin
bantam cochin
leghorn
wyandots (sp)
showgirls (are they even showable yet)
silkies
naked necks
speckeled sussex
americanas EE (sp)
I have to ask what eles is in our mixup...but if I get this far I'd be ever so greatful!

I think you would show the showgirls in the silkies, but the arent yet standardized. But you can still show them. Ameraucanas you can show, but not sure about EEs. The other breeds are all classified in the links to show in certain categories.

Have you gone to the 4H website on showing chickens?

Our 4H is not very up to standards... The extension agent wont help you out too much unless you are into horses. I'll do a search though and see what I can find. Thanks for the advice.
