Okay so my curiosity got the best of me. I candled a few eggs (put them in the bator on the 22nd). I did see some air sacs in a couple but nothing else. Is it too soon to see anything? I have cochin eggs in there but they are alot harder to see into versus say my RIR or BO eggs. Plus there are alot of what I am assuming are pores(?) which makes it difficult to see anything. Should I just leave them in and try candleing around day 7-10?

Should I be seeing any veining or anything else yet? I am going to try to get a more powerful light source for candling so when I do it later on then I might have a clearer image.

If your a newbie to candling yes it's best to wait til day 7 or 10. Then you will see the veining and embryo very clearly. Most of us old timers never candle eggs til those days ourselves!

Yes I am a newbie to this way of incubating. LOL I used to hatch eggs all the time when in school, with the schools' incubator. We would just put some water in the reservoir, put the eggs in and aside from turning them 2X's a day, that was it. We never had a problem with them hatching. So in terms of being a newbie, yes I am to monitoring temps, humidity, candling etc.

Porous eggs can definitely be hard to candle.

Definitely leave them in unless one smells bad. Try candling again in a few days. Veining can be seen as soon as four days, but with dark, porous eggs, I would not count on it.

Is it hard to candle smaller sized eggs like cochins, quail etc than the larger ones or not necessarily? I know they are small in size but didn't know if that would generally make it harder to candle.

I have some button quail hatching right now, and they were a complete pain to candle, not only because of the dark coloring, but because of the tiny size. My smallest light was still too large for candling - I imagine the mini mag would work, though, if it was strong enough!

well i have about 22 eggs split between 2 bators, and 7 wer from a farmwe down the road and six of them are clearly developing and now with 5 days to go on them i can't see much more as they have got so big! ... now the other batch contain some from ebay which i can't see much and some have veins but only on one side .. my cousin gave me 2 eggs and they both seem to be developing fine but the shells are dark brown so can't see too much ! ... i also popped 2 store eggs in .. as an experiment ... wat ya make of the eggs with veins on one side .. shud i jus leave them in anyway , safe than sorry kind of thing!
