I have a 14 year old JRT/Mini Dachshund mix. He has spine problems that are causing him to lose all sensation in his front paws, so basically paralyzed, asleep so when he walks around he stumbles a lot of has no balance. He also has a bad heart murmur and over this past year is getting extremely aggressive. He's bitten my other dog when he goes by the dog food more than a few times, he's bitten me, growls at my daughters etc.
I know it's for the best to put him down, but according to the vet I just saw yesterday he "looks too healthy" to put down.
Because he wasn't showing aggression towards him.
So never mind that he has spinal issues, having problems walking, his heart murmur, just because he's not showing aggression towards him he refuses to put my dog down.
I always thought it was the owners decision. It's not like he's a pup, or I'm just trying to get rid of him because I don't want him anymore. The only thing I don't want is to see him in pain anymore, and I'm also afraid he will bite one of the kids I babysit for or me again, or my daughters again.
Is it normal for a vet to refuse it simple because he "looks good"??
thanks.
