Hi there, I Haven't got my chickens yet but i would like to know what to feed laying chickens.
I would like to know with the layer pellets should i mix that with the grit and how much should i mix, like half and half.
What size feeder and water should be good for 3 chickens and i will be out there all the time so i will be able to wash it out and re-fill it daily.
Thanks for your help

Hi there - I'm no expert, but I can tell you what I have done in the past. Before keeping the flock I currently have, I had five mottled javas that laid pretty well. I had a three-gallon waterer, which was more than sufficient (actually I ended up emptying a lot of water each day and re-filling). I also let them free range every day and they never touched their grit. I think they found plenty of rocks in the yard/garden. So, I had them on laying pellets plus treats (scratch, greens, fruit, bread, etc.) and water and whatever they could find in the yard. That seemed to do just fine.

This new flock is still too young for me to know what exactly they'll require. Others will be able to tell you what you should do with more specificity. Good luck and have fun!
