Alright, I've had muscovies for a couple of years now.

I have a black pied girl that doesnt lay. We found her wandering around a parking lot in the middle of town so I brought her home a couple years ago. Last January I picked up a chocolate pied drake and they've been doing great, living the happy duck life. Well, on the 30th, I picked up a blue pied female at the poultry show in Stockton.

I've had her for a week now, and two days after I brought her home she laid an egg. She laid one the next day and has not laid another one since.

My question is: Do muscovies have a certain time of the year that they lay? How long do the eggs last if she doesnt set on them? And how long does it take your muscovies to get enough eggs to start setting?

My bator is full of quail eggs at the moment, but if I need to, I could take them to the feedstore to be incubated.

I feel like such a novice!

My choco scovie hen has been like that. SHe laid one egg last week , then i think she laid one a few days after and thats it. Thats all she has laid! I think it might have to do with the weather. We've been having short warm spells lately and I currently have five ducks will egg bellies - but in two weeks ive only gotten 7 eggs.

Well darn,

Our weather was pretty nice last week and this week it is all rain, maybe that's why. The thing is, these eggs were fertilized by another drake so I'd like to hatch them in hopes that I would have a little bit of a diverse bloodline. We'll see! If she doesnt lay anymore soon, Im going to call my buddy at the feed store.

The egg should be fertile for up to two weeks

We had a nice sunny day last week and now we have nothing but gray skies and RAIN! Yucky wet rain that ruins everything and makes it so i cant get any work done.

Do you know why your little black pied girl wont lay? Is she just really old you think?

Oh - And scovies will wait till they have a nest of 15- 22 eggs before they start setting.

Ok, thank you. I'll give her a few more days and see. Its only $1 an egg if you take them to the feed store, Im pretty sure I can sacrafice $2.

I think she is just a really old duck, honestly. We got her as an adult and she just has that aged look, you know. She's stolen nests before and sat long past their due date, but they were never fertile. So Im hoping she'll be able to get some from this girl and actually hatch ducklings.

Thank You!
