Whenever I am holding my little dumpling, Arlo, if my husband puts his hand on my shoulder, Arlo pecks his fingers. He does this to anyone who gets close to me even tho I tell him its naughty to peck his Daddy. But when Nate holds Arlo there's no pecking.

Is he trying to tell Daddy not to mess with "his" Mommy?

Nah, he's just being a rooster. I avoid holding mine more than is necessary for their health and safety. Let a roo get too comfortable with people and IF he has any aggression in him, making a baby out of him will make it that much easier for him to feel it's okay to attack. Just my experience and MHO of course.

. I will have to tell Nate, its his nature. (yes, I've made a real sissy out of that rooster!)-

Chickens are chickens, not like puppies and kittens. To them, fingers and toes are big worms, causing curiosity. They're main motivation is "hey, can I eat that?"

Unfortunately, so are eyeballs and expensive earrings! Having lost earrings and had an eye pecked, I no longer turn any of them into lap lizards.

The bad news is that the more the rooster has been babied, the more likely he is to reach sexual maturity and really think he is in charge. Disabled or not, they can become a real problem.

he turned a year old last saturday. I dont have my ears pierced so's thats a good thing. When he pecks at fingers I take his chin & tell him NO in a loud voice.

You have gotten some really good, great advice

I have a LOT of roosters, but I have two special roosters, one is two years old and the other will be two years in september. One I purchased as a chick, the other I raised from an egg and he was a single chick for a month.

Both are super, snuggly babies - even to this day. One is a RIR bantam - Woodstock, he will sleep in my lap, he follows me around, eats all the tasty treats I give him (phoey on those girls

) . The other is a large fowl EE rooster - Marilyn. Mar dances for me in the morning and give me a peck kiss on the cheek. I then scoop him into my arms for a hug. Both boys come to their name and seek out human attention from me.

So sometimes it does work.

I got Arlo at 7 weeks, from a lady in Florida who had tried everything to correct his legs but nothing helped. Since I care for disabled critters she sent him to me.

Arlo turns his head to his name, & it tickles when he puts his head under my chin & shakes it hard, makes me laugh. I know by the tone of his peeps whether he's happy or uncomfy. He is a smart roo.

He is a millie-fleur-D uccle.........

Hugs to the ranch hand for his/her great advice!
