Question about the door.

Im about to cut out the door for the girls to go in and out. Am I correct that the door opening should be about 9x12? Also, on the inside of the house should I lay a 2x4 across the front of the door to keep the litter inside or is this not necessary. Remember this is a 3x4x5 dog house converted.

I cut my door at 12x18. It could be smaller but I wouldn't go bigger than 12x18.

Depends on what breed/size chicken you have. I went with a 14 inch tall and 11 inch wide coop door for my buff orpingtons.

Thanks for answering my unasked question. I was wondering the same thing as I have a variety of girls ranging from an Ameraucana to Australorps and Brahma and will have Rocks and BOs coming in July.
