I plan to incubate 8 eggs, and placing them 4 on each side, its just a small cooler-Bator with the bulb and thermostat in the center. If I put them in egg crates with the bottoms cut off, and and know they need to be broad side up, would tilting the whole Bator be sufficient? Its pretty small so there's not much room for heat sinks. I don't want to open it, except for candling, if this can be done safely.

Thanks for the help!

Yes that will work. I know several people who do it that way.

If they are duck eggs, a cool down period every day doesn't hurt them at all, so it doesn't hurt them to open the incubator. There are a lot of things to worry about when you are incubating, but that isn't one of them.

Unless its lockdown. You don't want to open the bator in lockdown unless you must!

Ok, thanks a lot. I figured it would be ok, but I just needed some reassurance. I've read about the cool down, down but isn't that only once every few days to a week or something?
