I guess I'm glad I didn't spend money on em lol.
I got them all from my neighbor. I would have been majorly disappointed had I bought them & none hatched.
My hubby went to a friend's house & bought us two first season black australorpe hens... at least we'll get eggs to eat for now. And, maybe I can buy a rooster & let the animals incubate them! Allll while trying again to incubate some. I'm too impatient for 100% failure rates!

Learn, Learn, Learn, from your mistakes---don't repeat mistakes---that will be a mistake again. I remember my first time----still air little giant(bad hatch)---I decided a little over a year ago I wanted to hatch some---I had 2 stryofoam incubators and I got started----I got bigger incubators----I hatched over 5200 in the last year---dealing with that many has not been easy, hatching, brooding, electric bill, etc , but it has been a learning experience.

If it helps any my very first hatch I had 17 go into lockdown one hatch day 24 and one on day 25 that died. I never checked my thermometer because it was brand new....after the hatch found out it was 6 degrees off. My one that made it ended up having leg problems that started to show as it got older, so he's my special needs roo, but I'm so glad he made it. After that I reassessed everything, bought two new thermometers (and added a third later...lol), I decided to go with the "dry" or low humidity incubation and I've had awesome hatches since. I also found a great spot for my incubator in a room where temps don't vary much, sun doesn't come in on it and that helped a lot. I hate having to adjust an lg, because you're right, one little adjustment will send it in oven status. If I need it a little warmer I turn my brooder light on and point it at the incubator and that usually gives me just enough extra heat so I don't have to adjust...lol There's many little tricks you'll learn if you continue to use an LG. Many through them out after the first couple of fails...lol

Don't give up!!! Last year I tried it twice in a styrofoam incubator with a turner. I didn't get 1 baby
I found an old round metal incubator. I started out out with 24 eggs but between blood rings & infertile I lost 10. I'm at 19 days today & I heard 1 peeping today!!! It was awesome!!
I'm also attempting a staggered hatch as I had people give me free eggs but not together. So Sunday my 1st eggs are due. Then next Fruday I gave Silky & Cochins due to Hatch. Then then 2 weeks I have Ameraucauna & Cinnamon Queens due to hatch.

Twink, I wish you Luck with your staggered hatch. It can be done for sure, but you would probably have better luck using another incubator as a hatcher----move the 18 day old eggs to the "hatcher" so you can increase the humidity for them. Moving them also keeps the incubator clean----which is a good thing for the "other" eggs that are left in it. Good Luck!!

That sucks but your getting there. It took me 3 tries to finally get it. I'm now a happy new momma of 7 newborns
