I am thinking that at some point I will sell some of our eggs, but I'm not sure about the cartons. What do you do about cartons? Do you buy cartons, tell people to bring their own, what? I have several cartons stashed away, but what about when I run out of cartons?

TIA

You go to eggcartons.com! They sell paper cartons, plastic cartons, foam cartons, half cartons, all kinds....labeled or unlabeled, and they also will make custom stamps for you so you can mark them yourself. Great site; they have all kinds of chicken stuff besides cartons as well.

It depends upon state laws. Here in SC I can sell eggs from my property in clean used cartons. But if I sell them off premise, I have to have new cartons, with my label.

Check with your state Agriculture and Health requirements.

ETA, yes! I got some nice cartond from eggcartons.com!

I have everyone I know save them! lol. Then when I get a regular customer I would ask them to bring cartons back when they came back for eggs. Eggcartons.com is great if you run out too. They have a huge selection and the foam ones are pretty cheap. You can also put up adds on craigslist or freecycle.

I buy my cartons here at our local feed store for a quarter a piece then pass that cost on to my buyers. They pay me $2.25 the first time around and then if they bring back the carton in good condition to be refilled, it's just $2.00. It's kind of like paying a deposit on the carton and I don't have to buy and store a huge quantity of cartons that way.

I've got cartons coming out my ears! I let customers know we need cartons and I must have 100 extra stored up by now. Our sales are self serve @ $2.00 a dozen. Sometimes I don't sell any for a day, but still have cartons show up. It all started by putting a note inside the ice chest: "HELP, we need egg cartons".

I have that problem too, but they pay for them every time they don't turn the carton back in so no loss here!

There may be laws against it in some places, but around here everybody re-uses cartons. I put out the word that I needed cartons and I am up to my ears in cartons. Even the librarian saves me hers.

I have no problem with cartons. Originally I bought 200 cartons. Most people who buy my eggs bring back my cartons and more.
