Do you pronounce "Z" as "Zee" or "Zed"

I've only heard one person use "zed" - something like "... all the food from a to zed..." I couldn't figure out what she was talking about. I hear "zed" and immediately think, "Led Zeppelin" (albeit scrambled letters.)
My friend's from New Zedland, so that explains it!
