Question of the Day - Thursday, October 23rd, 2025

Hmmm… my brothers and I named one of our cockerels ’Mead’. I don’t think we even knew about the beverage of the same name. There were also Wiemer and Pead. All three were nicknames, for Phoenix, Stormcloud, and Emu, respectively. The etymology of these names is real though convoluted. 🤓

More recently I had a Ladyfingers, which got shortened to Fingers, then morphed into Fingerbird. It was so much fun to say that I might have to name my next new hen Fingerbird the Second… imagine the look on someone’s face when you introduced them…

All 15 of my black youngsters are named Moony.

One of mine was "stinky brown one" ( bc she pooed all the time and it was smelly) she passed before I could give her a better name🫠
