Yes, once when I was a kid we took an old steam engine from an old train station turned museum to a an old mine turned historical site. On the way the guide was describing to us different ways to make poison .

It's amazing how far the sound of a train horn travels. I can hear the train 8 miles away in the next town over from my house.

Same here. Some days I can hear the train which is probably about ten miles away.

Grandfather worked for Pennsylvania Railroad so I was always on trains. When I was in 5th grade at 10 yrs old, every Saturday on the Media Local, solo into Philly to the Philadelphia College Museum of Art for classes. A few yrs ago rode from Philly to Montana, after Chicago, great scenery, another from Philly to Miami at 14 yrs old solo and one was from Korat to Bangkok. This one felt like you were riding on an HO scale.. Would you send your kid at 10 and 14 yrs old alone on those trips today? NO WAY SCOOTER!

When my son was younger, he loved Thomas the Train. Well, the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railway had a Thomas day. So, we went and saw Thomas and the conductor dude. We rode Thomas around the national park, had a lot of fun
