We are getting close to finishing our Chicken Shack and want to give our Ladies 2 options for roosts. We have put in a 2x4 roost and want to put in a tree limb roost also. We are having a mental block on how to securely attach the tree limb for them. We would like to hear or see how you attched yours.

And, thank you to all who post on here...our whole Chicken Shack is designed from your pic's and comments, what works and what doesn't, you have all been a BIG HELP.

Pic of where we were a couple weeks ago, a true Chicken Shack sided with torn apart pallets, Re-Store windows, nesting box out of an old water bed frame, metal on roof is leftovers from our barn remodel. We will move the Ladies in very soon, then build them a secure run.

This is how I did mine. Drill a hole through the limb and the support and use a large nail for a peg to hold it in place and keep it from rolling. This is removable if you need to clean out the coop.

I did the same thing just put my 2x4 on different.

And that is a big coop for two chickens. Do you have any more pic's I am liking it so far.

OH! We have 12 Ladies who are currently in a temp area of the barn. The Chicken Shack is 8x12, 4x12 of it will be storage for chick supplies. There are a few more pics on my profile page....right now my camera is on a long 12 state motorcycle vacation with friends!! More pics will be posted when my camera returns tanned & wind blown.

Your girls look real happy on the branchs, Thank You for sharing!

Thank You....so simple, but was just not coming into focus in my head! Guess I have spent too much time thinking on the whole coop. For an Ol'gal I have had a blast building it.

I did like ridgerunner, except I used a deck screw on each end to hold it in place. But the idea of using a nail makes a little better sense, with a hole drilled for the nail to go through - easier to remove for cleaning...I have to use my drill with a screwdriver bit each time I need to move the roost. Might have to incorporate ridgerunner's idea on the coop about to be built!

The primary reason I read through many of these threads - great ideas!

Hav a great day, and God bless!
