Hi everybody,
I was just curious about baytril and what helps heal?
Does anyone know, what type of sickness it helps heal in chickens? Any Diseases?, or limps?
I was just curious, and wanted to know.

Thanks

I am no expert but it is an antibiotic so should only be given when you suspect a bacterial infection. My vets have prescribed it for a few of my chickens as a precaution when they appeared sick but the reason was not apparent or to prevent secondary infections. They have told me that there is no published withdrawal time, meaning it isn't officially approved for use in animals who's eggs or meat you intend to eat because they haven't studied how long it takes to get out of the chicken's system. But off the record they said don't eat the eggs for a few weeks. It does appear to be the antibiotic of choice among avian vets for pet birds (including my pet chickens) but not among farmers due to the unknown withdrawal period. Hopefully someone here can provide you with a list of bacterial infections that it is recommended for.

Thanks ,
I know that our vet prescribed for one of our hens, when she was sick as well.

i have used it with my parrots and yes its a antibiotic and a very strong one. it will wipe the good bacteria out and is hard on their system. it will cause them to poop blood too. i would not use it unless there is no other option. its very serious stuff that no one should mess around with

Thanks all,
If anyone eles knows anything eles about it, please let me know?

Baytril is wonderful. I had my vet give me some pills for one of my ducks that had botulism. She pulled through with flying colors.
