We have a silkie mix that has been sitting on the nest for 5 days. We have 4 nests, but the other two silkies have always laid in the same nest box. Well, they have been just getting in the box with the broody and laying. She puts the eggs under her each time they lay. My question is, what can we do to discourage the two silkies from laying in the broody's box w/her, as I think the broody will have too many eggs under her??? I don't know where or how how I would move the broody....I would like her to stay broody and hatch the eggs. Also, she has not, to my knowledge, gotten off the nest yet. I put food and water close to her....will that do? Thanks!

Hi, I'm new to this and my broody just hatched 5 out of 7 eggs. You have to keep her seperate from the other hens or most of your eggs will be wasted, because the first eggs will hatch and all the other eggs might develope but she may not sit on them past 23 days. Really you should block her off or put her in her own pen and put new fertile eggs under her (all at the same time) then let her be. They will hatch 20-23 days later. Put food and water with her, she will do the rest. My girl wouldn't eat the food so I gave her a lot of fruits and veggies. Hope this helps.
