ok here it is. i habe some cochins that are in a run and coop outside and are about oh i dont know 10 weeks old, i have a small bowl that i fill with decaying granite pieces for them for grit but every time i fill it they eat it all within an hours. so my question is, is this bad for them or do they need more? there is 4 cochins in this run and the cup is i guess about the size of a large tuna fish can only deeper like 3inches deep. they are feed starter grower right now with the occasional treat. and whatever bugs and stuff they catch in their run. thanks for your input

I don't know. BUT.....
IMO it's not great for them. I would maybe sprinkle some on their food, a light layer once a day maybe.
We acutally don't have any grit becuase our run, now that they demolished it last year. lol - is covered in sand so they eat some of that too.
I hope that helps.

some like to offer grit like you say you do. personally, mine would probably do the same thing and eat it all at one time. I just sprinkle it into the run, maybe when they are occupied by their own feeder after I fill it. this way, when they scratch and peck at the ground, they will find it gradually and not fill up on rocks.
